What is nova britannia?
Nova Britannia (Latin for "New Britain") was the name given by early English settlers to a region of the Northeastern United States that roughly corresponded to the present-day states of Connecticut and Rhode Island. The use of the name "Nova Britannia" first appeared in English explorer John Smith's 1616 work, A map of Virginia. The name was popularised by Captain John Mason in his 1620 publication A briefe discourse of the New-found-land.
The name Nova Britannia was not widely used by the other European colonists in the area, who preferred to use the names New England or Massachusetts Bay Colony. By the end of the 17th century, the use of the name Nova Britannia had largely disappeared.
