Could people purchase apples and pears to eat at shakespeares plays during the show?

There is no evidence to suggest that people were able to purchase apples or pears to eat during Shakespeare's plays. Theatres in Shakespeare's time were typically quite modest, and there were no concessions stands or other places to buy food. In addition, the plays themselves were often quite long, and it would have been disruptive for people to be eating and drinking during the performances.
