Who is Chernabog from Fantasia?

Chernabog is the main antagonist in Disney's 1940 animated feature film _Fantasia_. He is a giant, demonic figure who personifies pure evil and chaos. Chernabog is the dark equivalent of the film's protagonist, Mickey Mouse.

At the beginning of the film's segment _The Night on Bald Mountain_, Chernabog rises from the depths of Hell and begins his reign of terror. He summons an army of evil creatures, including demons, witches, and ghosts. Together, they dance and frolic in a wild and chaotic celebration. Chernabog delights in the suffering and destruction he causes.

As Mickey watches the events unfold from a safe distance, he is horrified by Chernabog's evil power. He realizes that he must confront the demon in order to restore order to the world. Mickey summons his own magic and does battle with Chernabog. The battle is fierce and intense, and Mickey is nearly defeated. However, in a moment of courage and determination, he defeats Chernabog.

With Chernabog's defeat, the chaos subsides and the world is once again at peace. Mickey has proven that even the smallest of beings can triumph over the greatest of evil.

Origins of Chernabog:

Chernabog was inspired by the Slavic deity of the same name. In Slavic folklore, Chernabog is the god of darkness and chaos. He is often depicted as a black goat with horns.

Chernabog's name is derived from the Slavic words "cherny" (black) and "bog" (god). His appearance in _Fantasia_ is influenced by various sources, including Slavic mythology, Russian folklore, and the works of Russian artist Ivan Bilibin.

Chernabog has become one of the most iconic villains in Disney history. He is a powerful representation of evil, but he is also a reminder that even the smallest of beings can triumph over great odds.
