What is a Narrative Map in Therapy?

Narrative therapy views people as experts in their own lives so the narrative map reflects the client's unique perspective and experiences.

Narrative work uses techniques like creating a written or visual metaphor and timeline; telling the story from start to finish and including how one’s identity has been informed/influenced by one’s culture; identifying dominant cultural stories that shape self/identity, agency and action; writing “alternative plot lines" of client’s narrative to create preferred alternative stories or identities of life events
