Tone can range from serious to humorous, objective to subjective, formal to informal, friendly to hostile, sarcastic to sincere, authoritative to casual, playful to somber, enthusiastic to cynical, and persuasive to neutral, among other variations. Identifying tone helps us not only understand the intended meaning but also grasp the speaker's or writer's stance, feelings, thoughts, and overall attitude towards the content.
