The 1812 overture was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1880 to commemorate the Russian victory over Napoleon in 1812. War and Peace is a novel by Leo Tolstoy, first published in 1869, that tells the story of five aristocratic Russian families during the Napoleonic Wars.
