How do you break up the alphabet into 3 groups?

The alphabet can be broken into 3 groups based on the phonetic sounds they make.

1. Vowels: A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y

2. Consonants: All other letters except the vowels

3. Semi-vowels: Sometimes called "glides," these are the letters W and Y.
