What did Tybalt mean by sending romeo a challenge?

Tybalt sent Romeo a challenge to a fight because he was angry that Romeo had crashed the Capulet ball and danced with Juliet. Tybalt saw this as a great insult to his family and felt that Romeo needed to be punished. He also wanted to prove his own courage and fighting ability.
