Why did Romeo and Juliet die?

Romeo and Juliet died because of a series of tragic events and misunderstandings:

Juliet feigned her own death by drinking a potion that simulated death to escape an arranged marriage.

Miscommunication:

- Romeo mistakenly believed Juliet to be dead, and in his grief, consumed poison

- Juliet awakens only after Romeo had passed to learn to truth:

- She stabs herself with Romeo's dager

Ultimately their deaths stem from love, a strong desire to be together even after death due to societal obstacles beyond control
