What is a folk drama?

A folk drama is a performance of a story usually acted by amateurs and passed on orally from generation to generation. Folk dramas are often based on traditional tales, legends, and myths, and are performed for cultural and entertainment purposes within traditional communities. They are typically presented in local languages and use traditional music, dance, storytelling techniques, and elaborate sets and costumes. Common examples include morality plays in Europe, Japan's kabuki, Indonesia's wayang, and many popular dance and theatre forms in India. Folk dramas are valued as an expression of cultural identity and often serve as living cultural heritage within communities.
