Is the prison in Shawshank Redemption real?

No, the Shawshank State Penitentiary is a fictional prison featured in the 1982 novella "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" by Stephen King and its 1994 film adaptation of the same name. The prison is set in the fictional town of Shawshank, Maine. The actual filming of the exterior scenes for the movie was done at the Mansfield Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio, which was closed in 1990 and is now a museum.
