Why is romeo filled with melancholy in the first scene?

In the first scene of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is not filled with melancholy. His mood is amorous and light-hearted. He's infatuated with the unattainable Rosaline and is in the process of getting over his unrequited love for her.
