2. His military career: Caesar began his military career at a young age. He served in several campaigns before becoming a military tribune in 73 BCE. He then served as a quaestor in Spain in 69 BCE and as aedile in Rome in 65 BCE.
3. His consulship: Caesar was elected consul in 59 BCE. During his consulship, he passed a number of popular laws, including a law that required the distribution of free grain to the poor. He also led a military campaign against the Helvetii, a tribe from Gaul (modern-day France).
4. His conquest of Gaul: Caesar conquered Gaul between 58 and 51 BCE. His victory over the Gauls made him one of the most powerful men in Rome. He also wrote a book about his conquest of Gaul, Commentarii de Bello Gallico (The Gallic Wars).
