Who dies in The Crucible?

In "The Crucible," several characters meet tragic fates and lose their lives. Here are the main characters who die in the play:

1. Abigail Williams: At the end of the play, Abigail flees from Salem after the truth about her malicious accusations is exposed. However, some versions of the play hint that she might have returned later to face trial or meet an unknown fate.

2. John Proctor: John is wrongfully accused of witchcraft and convicted due to Abigail's false accusations. Despite trying to reveal the truth and protect his wife, Elizabeth, John is ultimately hanged for his supposed crimes.

3. Rebecca Nurse: Rebecca is a highly respected elderly woman in the community. She is also falsely accused of witchcraft by Abigail and the other girls. Despite her denial of the charges and her reputation as a pious and kind woman, Rebecca is also found guilty and executed.

4. Martha Corey: Martha, like Rebecca Nurse, is an innocent victim of the witchcraft accusations. She is accused by Abigail and others, leading to her eventual conviction and execution.

5. Giles Corey: Giles is a farmer and husband of Martha Corey. When he refuses to enter a plea during his witchcraft trial, he is subjected to a brutal form of torture called "pressing" to coerce a confession. Giles dies under the immense pressure applied to his body.

These deaths highlight the tragic consequences of the Salem witch trials, where innocent individuals were falsely accused and met untimely ends due to hysteria, fear, and malicious intent.
