Why do Kent and Cordelia remain loyal to King Lear?

Cordelia and Kent do not remain loyal to King Lear. Cordelia is banished for her lack of flattery and Kent for supporting her. Both Kent and Cordelia are loyal to Lear's best interests rather than to Lear himself.
