Hubris (excessive pride or arrogance)

* Definition: Hubris is the excessive pride or arrogance that leads to a person's downfall. It is often associated with a lack of self-awareness and an overestimation of one's own abilities.

* Example: In the Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex, Oedipus's hubris leads to his downfall. He is so sure that he is right and everyone else is wrong that he fails to listen to the warnings of those around him. As a result, he unknowingly commits incest with his mother and murders his father.
