Why is Shrek a hero?

Shrek is not considered to be a traditional hero figure. He is often depicted as an antihero, a character who lacks the traditional heroic virtues but still engages in heroic actions. Shrek is often selfish, grumpy, and rude. He initially rejects the call to adventure in the first movie and only agrees to go on the quest to save Princess Fiona after Donkey convinces him that it will benefit him personally. However, despite his flaws, Shrek does ultimately display some heroic qualities. He is brave, resourceful, and willing to risk his life to save his friends. He also learns to love Fiona and accepts her for who she is, even though she is different from him. In this sense, Shrek can be seen as a complex and multifaceted character who defies easy categorization.
