1) Abigail turns against John Proctor. After accusing John of witchcraft, Abigail suddenly recants her testimony. 2) Elizabeth Proctor is found pregnant. Shortly after Abigail recants her testimony, Elizabeth Proctor is arrested and charged with witchcraft. This news devastates John, who is desperate to save his wife's life. However, Elizabeth's pregnancy complicates matters, as she cannot be executed while pregnant.
