In William Shakespeare's play "Othello," the title character, Othello, kills his wife, Desdemona, in a fit of jealousy. Othello is manipulated by his ensign, Iago, who plants seeds of doubt in Othello's mind about Desdemona's fidelity. Othello becomes increasingly suspicious and irrational, and ultimately strangles Desdemona to death in a moment of madness.
