While both women are renowned polar explorers, they went on separate expeditions:
* Ann Bancroft became the first woman to reach both the North and South Poles. She reached the South Pole in 1986 with a team of four other women, and the North Pole in 2001.
* Liv Arnesen holds the record for the longest solo unsupported ski expedition to the South Pole, which she completed in 2007.
