Claudius, the king in Shakespeare's Hamlet, sends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to spy on Prince Hamlet.
He does this after Hamlet's strange behavior and his suspicions about the king's involvement in his father's death. Claudius wants to understand what is making Hamlet act so oddly and if he suspects the truth about the murder.
