Who is the protagonist in masque of red death?

The protagonist in Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death" is Prince Prospero.

While the story doesn't explicitly focus on the inner thoughts and feelings of any one character, Prospero is the central figure around whom the events revolve. He is the one who throws the lavish masquerade ball, attempting to escape the Red Death plague, and ultimately succumbs to its deadly grasp.
