1. Apprentice Undertaker: Oliver's first job is as an apprentice to Mr. Sowerberry, an undertaker. His duties involve cleaning coffins, digging graves, and helping with funerals. This job is physically and emotionally demanding, and Oliver is treated poorly by his fellow apprentices and the Sowerberrys.
2. Factory Worker: After running away from the undertaker's shop, Oliver finds himself in London and eventually falls in with a group of pickpockets led by Fagin. Fagin's gang uses Oliver as a "decoy" to distract potential victims while they pick their pockets. Oliver is reluctant to engage in this criminal activity but feels trapped by his circumstances.
Additional Job: Mr. Brownlow, a kind and wealthy gentleman who takes Oliver in and offers him a home after he is framed for pickpocketing, allows Oliver to learn to read and write. During his recovery from an illness, Oliver helps Mrs. Bedwin, Mr. Brownlow's housekeeper, with light housework.
