When Abigail meets John Proctor alone in Act III, she admits that she was lying about seeing him with the devil and the other women in the woods during her testimony in court. She confesses it was Mary Warrens who drank the charm that Tituba made and the girls are pretending in order to get rid of Elizabeth in hopes she can be with Proctor.
