What happened to Ismene after the death of her sister Antigone in play Atigone?
Ismene does not die in the play Antigone. After Antigone's death, Ismene faces banishment from Thebes. She is the only surviving member of the royal house of Thebes and as such, she was subject to the same fate as her sister. Even though she opposed Antigone's decision to bury Creon's sons Polynices, the city had lost both a ruler and a queen with Antigone's and Haemon's deaths, leaving the city open to civil war and chaos. Creon eventually relents and spares Ismene's life.
