PROFESSOR HENRY HIGGINS (REX HARRISON): Ladies and gentlemen, I am Professor Henry Higgins, and I am here to tell you about the science of phonetics.
Higgins is a brilliant phonetician, but he is also arrogant and misanthropic. He believes that he can teach anyone to speak any language perfectly, regardless of their background.
HIGGINS (CONT'D): I have taken it upon myself to teach this young woman, Eliza Doolittle, how to speak like a lady.
The crowd laughs. Eliza is embarrassed, but she doesn't let it show.
HIGGINS (CONT'D): I am confident that I can transform her from a guttersnipe into a duchess.
The crowd laughs again. Eliza is even more embarrassed, but she is also determined to prove Higgins wrong.
