Why did Shakespeare write the Comedy of Errors?

The playwright who wrote "The Comedy of Errors" was not William Shakespeare but his contemporary, the Roman comedian Titus Maccius Plautus, commonly dubbed Plautus (254-184 BCE). Plautus is regarded as a prominent author of Latin dramas from the era referred to as the "Commedia Palliata," characterized by comedic plays set outside of Greece. "The Comedy of Errors" draws inspirations from at least two comedies attributed to Plautus: "Menaechmi" and "Amphitryon."
