What does the name Cinderella mean?

The name Cinderella is believed to be derived from the Italian word "cenerentola" which translates to "little ash girl" or "ash girl".

This refers to the character's humble circumstances and her role as a servant, where she was often covered in ashes from the fireplace.

Interestingly, the name wasn't originally part of the story. It was Charles Perrault, in his 1697 version of the fairy tale, who named the character "Cendrillon," which then evolved into "Cinderella" in English.
