How to Create Your Own Storybook Character Costume
Step out of your favorite storybook in a costume you have designed yourself. Your storybook character costume can be a way for you to express the main idea of the story. Recreate one of the main characters, or choose a secondary character to focus on. Translate your ideas into a costume that will give people something to talk about. Use clothing, props and your own creativity to design a one-of-a-kind creation that will enhance your storybook character and make your imagination a reality.

1
Draw a sketch of the character you wish to portray. Note any distinguishing features, such as a hat, something that is carried or an article of clothing.
-
2
Design the main portion of your costume that portrays your character. This could be anything from a hat, to a cape to a twirly mustache. To make a hat, use a paper bag or fabric, or embellish a hat you already have.

4
Cut out paper for embellishments such as flowers, medals or fairy wings.

5
Sew trim on collars, bodices or wrists to add interest and help evoke time-period effects.
