A friendly clown's eyes are expressive, often exhibiting an exaggerated look of surprise. Using your paint brush, paint a high arch over each eye connecting the ends of the kid's eyebrows. Fill the arch in with white, red, blue or yellow. Some kids might enjoy having their eyes done in different colors.You can outline the arch with a thick black line. For young toddlers who do not want to sit long enough to do this, paint a simple thick arched line above each eyebrow.
The traditional clown's face has a red ball for his nose. For kids, paint a bright red circle on the end of the nose. You could paint a blue or bright yellow triangle instead. Both shapes can be outlined in black or white.
The mouth is the most expressive facial feature. Paint the area around the mouth white. Make the area wide and shaped like a smile. Another option is to paint the area under the nose to the chin and from cheek to cheek, similar to the mouth area on a marionette. Paint the lips bright red. Outline the white paint with black or red. The expression can be made to look sad by turning the curved area down at the corners.
Paint a bright red circle on each cheek for a traditional clown's face. You could also paint red or blue triangles or stars on each cheek and outline them in black or white. For a sad clown's face, paint a tear with white paint under one eye by the side of the nose.
