What was the Miracle on Hudson?

On January 15, 2009, US Airways Flight 1549, an Airbus A320 bound for Charlotte Douglas International Airport, experienced a double engine failure after encountering a flock of geese shortly after takeoff from LaGuardia Airport in New York City. The plane was successfully ditched in the Hudson River by pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, saving the lives of all 155 passengers and crew on board. The incident became known as the "Miracle on the Hudson."
