Why is Broadway called Broadway?

Broadway is a street in New York City that is known for its theaters. It is called Broadway because it was originally a Native American path that became a road for Dutch colonists. The name "Broadway" comes from the Dutch word "breede weg", meaning "broad way". In the 19th century, Broadway became a center for entertainment, and by the early 20th century, it was known as the Great White Way because of its bright lights and electric signs.
