Who hung the two lanterns on old north church April 18 1775?

The two lanterns hung on Old North Church on April 18, 1775, were hung by Robert Newman, the sexton of the church, at the direction of Paul Revere.

This event is famously depicted in the poem "Paul Revere's Ride" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, which states that Revere rode through the night warning colonists of the approaching British troops. While the poem accurately portrays the importance of the lanterns, it does not mention the name of the sexton who hung them. However, historical accounts confirm it was Robert Newman.
