Was Fred Elliot the first butcher in Coronation Street?

Fred Elliott was not the first butcher in Coronation Street.

The first butcher shop on Coronation Street was owned by Walter Barlow, the father of Ken Barlow. Walter, a gruff and often unpleasant character, ran the shop until his death in 1965.

Fred Elliott was introduced in 1979 and took over the butcher shop after Walter's death. He became a popular character, known for his friendly demeanor and cheeky banter. He remained the butcher on the street for many years.
