The first butcher shop on Coronation Street was owned by Walter Barlow, the father of Ken Barlow. Walter, a gruff and often unpleasant character, ran the shop until his death in 1965.
Fred Elliott was introduced in 1979 and took over the butcher shop after Walter's death. He became a popular character, known for his friendly demeanor and cheeky banter. He remained the butcher on the street for many years.
