What does Massachusetts mean?

Massachusetts is derived from the Algonquian word "Massachusett," which means "At the Great Hill" or "Great Blue Hill." The name originally referred to the location around the present-day Blue Hill in Milton, Massachusetts, which was a significant landmark for Native American tribes in the area.
