George Gershwin did not perform in Carnegie Hall, but he did play there. His first appearance at the prestigious concert hall was on December 16, 1924. He performed his famous "Rhapsody in Blue" with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra. Gershwin's performance was a critical and commercial success and helped establish him as one of the most popular composers in America.
