What is a planet song?

The Planets *(Op. 32)* is an orchestral suite composed by the English composer Gustav Holst. The work was composed between 1914 and 1916 and was premiered by the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Holst, on September 29, 1918, at Queen's Hall, London.

The suite is a set of seven movements, each depicting a planet of the Solar System. The movements are:

1. Mars, the Bringer of War

2. Venus, the Bringer of Peace

3. Mercury, the Winged Messenger

4. Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity

5. Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age

6. Uranus, the Magician

7. Neptune, the Mystic

Each movement is characterised by its own unique instrumentation, themes and musical style, and is designed to evoke the character of the planet it represents. The work is a classic of 20th-century music and has been recorded and performed by numerous orchestras around the world.
