How to Write a Sad Country Song

If you have ever had your heart broken, lost your dog, stumped your toe, or wrecked your truck, you can probably write a sad country song. Country songs tell a story and everyone has a story to tell. Composers will need some guitar knowledge, mainly the ability to strum major and minor guitar chords

Instructions

    • 1

Write down your feelings. Keep your thoughts short and concise. Use color and imagery to enhance the words on paper.

    • 2

Transform your thoughts to lyrics in a song. Tell your sad story in verses, and put a catchy chorus between them.

    • 3

Grab your guitar and mess around with easy chord progressions. G, C, D or E, A, D are country favorites. Have one chord progression for the verses and a second, similar chord progression for the chorus. Keep it simple, and change the chords and words until they make a country boy well with tears.

    • 4

Add a bridge to your song. A bridge is usually played with minor chords, like E minor, G minor or A minor, and fits between your second verse and chorus. Write the few, to-the-point lines that you couldn't fit into the verse or chorus. Again, focus on details while writing the bridge. Describe exactly how it feels to lose something you love.

    • 5

Sing your song when you begin to feel lonely, lost or sad.
