What is The Maine Song?

The "Maine Song" is the state song of Maine. The lyrics were written by Mrs. Edna St. Vincent Millay in 1930 and the music was composed by Mrs. Marguerite W. Newell in 1929. The official state song was adopted in 1931.

Here are the lyrics to "The Maine Song":

State of the Pine Tree Clumps,

Home of Blueberry Swamps,

Where ocean billows beat

And thunder loudly roars,

We give our pledge to thee,

Forever and evermore,

Dear State of Maine!

State of the rugged coast,

Where surges rise and toss,

Thy waves beat evermore,

Thy billows never sleep,

Upon thy rocky shore;

We love thy ceaseless roar,

Dear State of Maine!
