Selena's career began at the age of 10 when she performed in a local restaurant. In 1989, she signed with EMI Latin and released her debut album Selena. The album was a commercial success, selling more than 500,000 copies. Selena released a total of six studio albums, two live albums, and one compilation album. She won numerous awards for her music, including a Grammy Award for Best Mexican/American Album in 1994.
Selena was also a successful actress, starring in the films Selena (1997) and Don Juan DeMarco (1995). She also had her own clothing line, Selena Etc., which was launched in 1994.
