How does a clavichord make sounds?

A clavichord makes sound by means of a tangent, a small metal blade that strikes the string when a key is pressed. This causes a small section of the string to vibrate, producing sound. The clavichord is one of the oldest keyboard instruments, and it was used extensively from the 16th to the 19th century. It has a soft and delicate sound, and is often used for performing Baroque music.
