Roll your tongue up to the front of your mouth, and feel the hard palate. Slowly roll your tongue towards the back your mouth, feeling for the area where your palate becomes soft. Remember the feeling of this area, while your mouth is at rest.
Sing a note in your middle register, using the syllable "ng." This syllable will require your soft palate to compress toward the base of your mouth. Concentrate on feeling the placement of the soft palate.
Hold the note while changing the syllable from "ng" to "ah." As you make the change, feel the movement of the soft palate. The palate will move upwards to create the "ah" syllable.
Alternate between "ng" and "ah." Explore the back of your mouth, as you raise and lower the soft palate. Try to make each "ng" a little lower than the last and the "ah" a little higher than the last.
