Lie flat on your back on the floor or bed. Place your hands at waist level with your fingertips pointing toward your navel. Breathe in, filling your lungs from the bottom. Your stomach should rise on the in-breath and lower on the out-breath. Count to five and repeat, 10 times before rising in the morning, before falling asleep and several times throughout the day.
Maintain good posture to increase your vocal output. Stand with your shoulders back and your feet slightly apart, allowing your weight to be a bit forward. Hold your chest high and keep your chin parallel to the floor. Keep your hands and knees loose and relaxed.
Develop a strong voice by singing as much as possible. Experiment and become aware of the results that come from making different mouth shapes, various placement of the soft palate and practicing different vowel sounds. Practice deliberately projecting your voice while humming.
Develop good control of your diaphragm. Take a deep breath before singing a note or phrase, and be careful not to release air too quickly or forcefully. Use your abdominal muscles, and become aware of the most effective amount of air to release in order to achieve the optimal vocal output for each singing situation.
