How to Fix Your Pitch

Singing in proper pitch is also referred to as singing in the proper key. It is not uncommon for inexperienced singers to have pitch problems or go off key. This usually results in the singer hitting notes that are a bit higher or lower than the actual note she should be hitting. Some people can have pitch problems due to a lack of breath or tendency to strain on high notes. These things can be overcome. Even for those that have pitch problems due to a naturally lazy ear, pitch problems can be fixed.

Instructions

    • 1

Improve your posture. Stand upright or sit with your back straight. Balance your head evenly on your neck.

    • 2

Warm up your voice. Go through your entire vocal range. Open your throat all the way. Sing without tension in your throat. Feel the notes through your nasal membrane and feel it in your jaw and tongue. Relax your throat and head and neck muscles.

    • 3

Listen to the music closely. Pay particular attention to acoustic instruments. Avoid listening to the bass line to find your pitch.

    • 4

Aim your voice directly at the pitch. Sing with the purpose of hitting a specific note.

    • 5

Practice singing your vocals perfectly. By focusing on hitting the correct notes consistently you will train your ear to avoid pitchiness.
