Alicia Keys is an American singer, songwriter, pianist and actress. She was born in Manhattan, New York, and raised in Hell's Kitchen. Keys began playing the piano at the age of 7 and started writing songs at the age of 14. She was signed to a recording contract with Columbia Records at the age of 15. Her debut album, Songs in A Minor, was released in 2001 and went on to sell over 12 million copies worldwide.
