Why did was music used to recruit men for battle in the civil war?

Music was used to boost morale, spread propaganda, rally supporters, foster comradeship among troops, establish rhythm during drills and marching, and celebrate achievements during the Civil War. Soldiers' marching feet were synchronized by military music while on parade or moving to the battlefield, producing synchronized, thunderous footsteps to enhance a military unit's strength and solidarity.
