A vocal booth prevents unwanted noise such as reflected sound from interfering with the recording process and allows better control of the finished product.
The inside dimensions should comfortably accommodate at least one standing adult and desired recording equipment such as microphones, microphone stands and music stands.
If building a booth from scratch, you will need the appropriate amount of framing lumber and drywall (or plywood) for the inner and outer walls, floor and ceiling.
Depending on desired sound and budget, cover interior walls and ceiling with sculpted or corrugated mattress topper foam, professional acoustic foam, or heavy drapes. Cover the floor with rugs or carpet.
Provide for adequate lighting and ventilation as well as a safe way for people to enter and exit the booth.
Check with your landlord before beginning construction; use the proper tools safely and always wear personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, when working with tools.
