Cut four pieces of 3/4 inch plywood with a table saw to 8 inches by 12 inches. These will make the fronts and backs of both studio monitors. When recording in stereo, you need both a right and left speaker to get the correct audio perspective during mixdown.
Cut four pieces of wood with a table saw to 6 inches by 12 inches. These will make up the sides of both monitors. Use the same thickness of plywood for the speaker shell.
Cut four pieces of 3/4' plywood to 8 inches by 6 inches, as these four pieces will be the tops and bottoms of the speaker cabinets for the studio monitors.
Cut areas in two of the 8-inch by 12-inch pieces to accommodate a speaker jack in each. Try to get the jack in the center of the back wood for consistency.
Route an area in each front speaker for the 6-inch speaker. Use a large drill bit to make a hole that will accommodate the jigsaw. Follow the line for the hole made with a compass. The hole should be just shy of 6 inches to accommodate the speaker and the rim where you will attach it.
Route an area on each front piece to accommodate a tweeter. Measure the tweeter and cut the area accordingly by first drilling a hole large enough to insert the jigsaw blade to finish the cut.
Nail two 6-inch by 12-inch pieces to each back piece, which will be identified by the small area cut for the speaker jack. Put one on each side of the back piece.
Nail the top and bottom pieces on each back as well. Use at least three nails to hold the wood together.
Nail the front wood to each almost-completed speaker shell. Use at least three nails on each side for security.
Wire the speaker jacks with wires to the tweeter and 6-inch speaker on each monitor. Screw the jack in making sure that the wires are inside the box.
Wire the tweeters by connecting the corresponding wires that are located inside of the speaker boxes. Attach a red wire to the positive terminal and a black wire to the negative terminal, repeat this process for the other monitor. Screw the tweeters into their locations with wood screws after wiring.
Place the red wire on the positive terminal of each 6-inch speaker. Attach the black wire to the negative terminal and screw each speaker into the box with wood screws.
