Instructions

  1. Convert LP Songs to MP3

    • 1

Download and install Audacity, which is a free sound editing and recording program. Next, download and install the LAME MP3 Encoder. This encoder will allow you to convert your music tracks to MP3 format with the Audacity program.

    • 2

Select the LP you want to convert to digital format and place it in the record player.

    • 3

Insert one end of the stereo cable into your record player, and insert the other end of the stereo cable into your computer's "Line In" input jack.

    • 4

Open Audacity, click on the "Edit" tab and select the "Preferences" option. Select your computer's sound card from the list of choices in the "Recording" pane and click "OK."

    • 5

Place the recording needle on the music track you want to record. For best results, you should record one LP track at a time.

    • 6

Press the "Play" button on your record play and immediately press the "Record" button in Audacity. When the song ends, press the "Stop" button in the Audacity program as well as on your record player.

    • 7

Click on the "File" tab and select "Export as MP3." Name the new music track and select a folder for your new music file's location. Next, click the "Save" button.

    • 8

Continue recording the remainder of your LP's music tracks by repeating each step. When you've finished recording, close Audacity and open a CD burning program such as Windows Media Player.

    Copy MP3s to CD

    • 9

Insert a blank CD-R into your computer's disc drive.

    • 10

Open Windows Media Player. Import your new MP3s by clicking the "Library" tab, selecting the "Add to Library" option and choosing the MP3s you want to transfer to CD. When you've selected all of the tracks you want to burn to CD, click "OK."

    • 11

Click on the "Burn" tab and select the "Album" link, which is located under the "Library" pane. Locate the album you want to copy to CD and drag the album to the "Burn List" pane.

    • 12

Edit the order of your music tracks by clicking and dragging each music track to your desired location. When you've finished editing your preferred track order, click the "Start Burn" button.
