How to Change Cassette Tapes to CDs

As audio cassettes become obsolete, so do cassette players. If you have found yourself in the situation where some of the favorite albums you own are still on cassette, there is a way to bring them into the 21st century. With the advent of computer recording software and recordable CDs, it is possible to transfer the audio from your old cassette tapes onto CD. Easy to do on any modern computer, changing your cassettes into CD can be done very quickly and efficiently.

Things You'll Need

  • Blank recordable CD
  • Audio cassette
  • Computer
  • Audio MIDI interface
  • Recording software
  • Stereo jack connector cables

Instructions

      Connect the stereo jack cables into the audio MIDI interface at one end. Connect the other end of the stereo jack cable into the cassette player.

      Turn on the computer. Connect the audio MIDI interface to the computer USB port. Load the recording software.

      Using the recording software, set the recording source to the audio MIDI interface. Insert the cassette into the cassette player, and begin to play it. Start recording the audio onto the computer hard drive. Save the files as WAV files.

      Insert the blank CD into the CD drive. Select the WAV files you wish to burn onto the CD. Once you have done this, select the CD burn option on the recording software.

      After burning is complete, play the CD back. This is to make sure the recording was successful.
